OVERVIEW
If you are a GT level Porsche enthusiast, then you likely already know the specifications on this one – first of the 991 chassis cars, they have become coveted since launch. Layered in rich history the “RS” moniker is reserved for Porsche’s best. Magnesium, carbon fiber, and aluminum all make an appearance for strength and weight savings on this highly focused machine.
The RS lineage began with the 1973 Carrera RS and has evolved through the years bringing us tremendous driver focused cars. Jumping to the water-cooled variants, the 996 GT3 RS was a track focused machine that was not sold in the USA. The 997 GT3 RS continued the use of lightweight materials in the search of lower lap times and was universally heralded as an exceptional driver’s car. The 991 GT3 RS takes all of the past learnings and advanced chassis and engine design to the ultimate level, while shedding more weight from the GT3 on which it starts from (albeit with some pretty serious changes and upgrades).
The 991 chassis GT3 RS was introduced in the US for the 2016 model year, and quickly sold out. While numerous cars were ordered on spec for the dealer network, many more were customer ordered with thoughtful choices in the myriad of available options. This car is one of the latter - showing a tasteful, yet restrained checking of the boxes.
The engine was punched out to 4.0L from the GT3’s 3.8L displacement and fitted with such race bits as titanium connecting rods in the search for 500hp. This leads to a very light weight and free revving drivetrain, that spins quickly to the 8,800rpm redline. Coupled with the 7 speed dual clutch PDK transmission, it is intoxicating to pull some full throttle runs when the road allows.
With the optional carbon ceramic brakes at each corner, this RS is ready for canyon carving, or even track events if desired. The 991 GT3 RS sits on massive Dunlop tires, measuring in at 265/35-20 front and 325/30-21 rear. These happen to be the same size at the Porsche 918 Spyder. Heady company indeed.
This car is in nearly new condition, showing just 1700 miles. Presented in factory GT Silver Metallic (sans exterior graphics) over a black leather and alcantara interior, it is one of the most timeless color combinations on the 991 GT3 RS.
