OVERVIEW
Throughout their history of racing, design, and ground-breaking engineering, Porsche has long been regarded by experts and enthusiasts as one of the finest automobile manufacturers in the world. Though the company has been in existence for more than seventy years, over the past decade, their dominance as high-performance sports car builders has advanced at an exponential rate. Among the icons of performance, the 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 must be considered one of the finest in its class.
Launched in 2011 it was, quite simply, the penultimate revelation of unmatched performance and design excellence. As the final evolution of the 997 GT3, it featured the massive 4.0 Liter engine, the most powerful naturally aspirated engine offered in the RS line-up. Having refined their offering over years of GT road and race cars, Porsche culminated this series in the ultimate expression of a powerful but drivable performance car.
This very special Mezger engine shares its block, crank, and titanium rods with the track-only 911 GT3 R and RSR of that generation. Utilizing open element air filters and a slightly lower compression ratio at 12.6:1 versus 13:1 in the RS 3.8, the engine is full of trick parts that just raised the bar everywhere. With a new specially cast intake manifold (that was wider with shorter runners, and thinner walls for weight reduction), less restrictive emissions legal exhaust, Variocam-Plus valve timing, and an RSR crankshaft with increased stroke dimensions, the 4.0 Liter four cam six-cylinder engine delivered a blistering 500 hp.
The highly refined chassis, derived from the GT2 RS, leveraged many RS suspension components, integrating traction control, Porsche Active Suspension, locking differential, and 6-speed manual gearbox. The bodywork remained in keeping with historically subtle modifications to the 911 architecture, employing lightened carbon fiber front fenders and engine lid and unique front dive planes which offered corner hugging, nose-planting downforce for the 2,998 lb. car. A phenomenal 365 hp per ton performance level was achieved with further lightening efforts. 0-60 times ticked down in a cheek-fluttering 3.5 seconds, while top speeds stared down 200mph, all of which was effortlessly derived through highly refined upper and underbody aerodynamics. Not only was this model an impressive engineering tour de force, with its dual plane spoiler, vivid graphics and glued-down racing stance, it signaled to anyone fortunate enough to witness one of just 600 built that this was indeed a very special Porsche.
This particular example is one of just 141 GT3 RS 4.0 models built and delivered to North America. Numbered 332/600, this exclusively optioned Porsche was originally processed and sold through the Appleton, Wisconsin Porsche dealership, the car arrived October 28th, 2011 and was delivered to the first owner. Verified by the original window sticker accompanying the car, the list of formidable standard features offered on the already superlative GT3 RS package included the following options:
Carrara White
Black Full Leather
RS 4.0 Logo in Red on Rear Lid
Lightweight Lithium-ion Battery (added cost $1700)
Ceramic Composite Brakes PCCB (added cost $8840)
No Air Conditioning
Cupholders
Lightweight Headlights
Deletion of Audio System CDR-3
Floor Mats in Interior Color
Certainly, these added options and features would have made an already special car even more desirable, but the owner decided to go deeper into the Porsche Exclusive Program where a select number of premium options were available to elite customers. The following added cost Porsche Exclusive Options were specifically selected for this car and installed at the factory:
Sun Visors in Alcantara
Alcantara Storage Lid with Logo
Rear Center Console Carbon
Clear Taillights
Today this Porsche presents in stunning visual condition with excellent factory Carrara white paint and factory graphics. The car exhibits exceptional detailing and precise exterior finishes reflective of the 2,245 documented miles it has covered since new. Having been owned by two enthusiasts since new, the second and current owner has owned the car since 2015. While many of these cars will display minor road chips or scuffs on the rocker panels, the only visible flaw on this premium example is a minor scuff on the lower front portion of the black air dam lip. The factory body panels are in excellent condition showing tight fit for the doors, hood, and engine lid and crisp factory fit along the front and rear bumpers nesting against the rear metal and front carbon fiber fenders. The unique Exclusive Options clear taillights are crystal clear, as is the original Porsche glass, and all unique GT3 details including the massive wheels.
Of particular note is the jaw-dropping rear view of this car. The expansive bi-level rear wing evokes the traditional duck tail for lower body air flow and upper wing for downforce stability. As a final touch of audacity, the 12” width rear wheel profile signals any doubters that 500 hp can be easily managed with that much tire glued to the ground. Hunkered down on the original Michelin tires, the 19” RS wheels are in beautiful condition dramatically accented by massive yellow brake calipers housing six (front) and four (rear) pistons, clutching the enormous ceramic composite disc brakes. With the RS 4.0 graphics and dual plane rear wing, the visual presence of this car is dominant, powerful, and masterfully sublime, particularly rendered in Carrara White.
The original black leather interior is excellent throughout, featuring crisp leather and Alcantara finishes, beautifully preserved door panels, and carpeting that appears untouched. The leather seating surfaces and Alcantara inserts are supple and beautifully maintained, accented with red seatbelts and red RS4.0 headrest embroidery. The dashboard features carbon fiber inserts, beautiful factory gauges, optional carbon fiber center console, and a numbered plaque on the dashboard showing No. 332/600. The Alcantara wrapped steering wheel with red centering marker matches the lightweight red door pulls and seatbelts, all of which remain in like-new condition. Every aspect of the interior is fresh, crisp, and perfectly composed, exhibiting all the traits of a documented low mile car that has been dutifully maintained and professionally cared for during ownership.
The engine compartment and trunk retain a stock exterior appearance, though everything about it is pure Porsche excellence from the carbon fiber engine shroud to the machined details and once again RS 4.0 insignia. The engine compartment is clean and properly detailed, with all of the original cosmetic features under the hood remaining fresh and properly maintained. During current ownership the originally delivered Lithium- Ion battery was replaced with a standard unit. The trunk compartment remains stock from the factory, displaying correct materials and finishes including factory accessories. Underneath the car is a technological showcase of precisely integrated air ducts, openings, and air management systems aiding in brake cooling and cornering control. Every aspect of the car from the inner door strike surfaces, under hood finishes, and chassis features support the originality and preservation this car has enjoyed since delivered new almost a decade ago.
Given the unparalleled condition, the mechanical performance further supports the care and service this car has benefited from since new. A great deal of what makes the GT3 such a phenomenal car is that it is equally at home under modest daily driving, but ready to pounce to highway speeds within a matter of seconds. The amazing power is all the more engaging with the 6-speed manual transmission aided by active suspension management, locking differential, and traction control. This preservation level GT3 RS 4.0 is offered with factory keys, factory owner’s manual, original window sticker, tools, and showing zero over revs for all ranges on the DME report.
This is an unrepeatable opportunity to acquire a low mileage, North American delivery Porsche GT3 RS 4.0. Optioned with Porsche Exclusive items and one of only 141 delivered to North America, this exceptional Porsche is ready for remarkable performance driving and rewarding showcase events, while being very much at home as a readily drivable premium collector car. For anyone who has marveled at the technical engineering, design, and advanced motorsports aerodynamics of Porsche cars, this beautifully preserved GT3 RS 4.0 continues that legacy with pride and performance.
