OVERVIEW
The 2016 Porsche GT3 RS – Does it really need an introduction in today’s Porsche GT world? If you are a Porsche enthusiast, then you already know the specs on this automobile. Layered in rich history the “RS” moniker is reserved for Porsche’s best. Magnesium, carbon fiber, and aluminum all make an appearance for strength and weight savings on this highly focused machine.
The RS lineage began with the 1973 Carrera RS, and has evolved through the years bringing us tremendous driver focused cars. Jumping to the water-cooled variants, the 996 GT3 RS was a track focused machine that was not sold in the USA. The 997 GT3 RS continued the use of lightweight materials in the search of lower lap times and was universally heralded as an exceptional driver’s car. The 991 GT3 RS takes all of the past learnings and advanced chassis and engine design to the ultimate level, while shedding more weight from the GT3 on which it starts from (albeit with some pretty serious changes and upgrades).
The 991 chassis GT3 RS was introduced in the US for the 2016 model year, and quickly sold out. While numerous cars were ordered on spec for the dealer network, many more were customer ordered with thoughtful choices in the myriad of available options. This car is one of the latter - showing a tasteful, yet restrained checking of the boxes.
The engine was punched out to 4.0L from the GT3’s 3.8L displacement and fitted with such race bits as titanium connecting rods in the search for 500hp. This leads to a very light weight and free revving drivetrain, that spins quickly to the 8,800rpm redline. Coupled with the 7 speed dual clutch PDK transmission, it is intoxicating to rip off some full throttle runs, just to feel and hear that iconic engine.
With the optional carbon ceramic brakes at each corner, this RS is ready for track day duty if called upon. The 991 GT3 RS sits on massive Michelin tires, measuring in at 265/35-20 front and 325/30-21 rear. These happen to be the same size at the Porsche 918 Spyder. Heady company indeed.
Presented in White over a black leather and alcantara interior, it is one of the most timeless color combinations on the 991 GT3 RS. The exterior of the car is fully wrapped in clear PPF, including the headlights, and front windshield. While the car has had track days, and numerous high speed mountain pass runs, the paint is original under the film and appears to be in superb shape if one were to decide to remove the PPF. The factory wheels are in excellent condition, spending most of their life in storage, and have near new Michelins on them with 2020 date codes.
The interior is very tastefully spec’d from the factory, featuring restraint - no sport chrono to avoid the dash wart clock, some added alcantara on the storage compartment lid, and a factory fire extinguisher. The interior is further accentuated with Custom Tailoring from the factory, featuring a subtle yellow thread in all the leather stitching - Seats, dash, door panels, rear cover, steering wheel, and more. The factory options are supplemented with a Cantrell Motorsport roll bar, Schroth harnesses, and a stealth install radar/laser detector system.
