OVERVIEW
Fiery Italian industrialist Ferruccio Lamborghini made his fortunes building tractors and farm equipment. As a Ferrari owner, he became frustrated at the lack of service attention from Ferrari. According to the legend that spawned Lamborghini cars, an infuriated Ferruccio drove his Ferrari to the factory where he and Enzo argued as only Italians can. Enzo declared “What do you know about sports cars. This is not a tractor”. Enraged, Ferruccio abandoned his Ferrari at the factory declaring for posterity “I’ll show you what a real sports car should be”, and Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. was born.
Since its inception in 1963, Lamborghini has built some of the most impressive high-performance sports cars. Innovators in mid-engine designs, Lamborghini first stunned the world unveiling the Miura in 1966 and again with the shocking Countach in 1974. In the ensuing decades, Lamborghini has proven to be a leader in supercar development, never resting on their robust past achievements, always moving into the next decade offering the very best in high-performance sports cars.
Following under the parent company at the time, Audi mechanicals and platform engineering were applied in 2003 with the introduction of the Gallardo. Powered by the robust V10 engine and offered with 6-speed manual or 6-speed “e-gear” transmissions, the Gallardo became an astonishing sales success which allowed Lamborghini new market expansion competing against Ferrari and Porsche.
In 2006, Lamborghini released the Gallardo Spyder. Not simply a Gallardo coupe with the roof removed, the Spyder was significantly redesigned offering a new 513 hp engine, low-ratio 6-speed transmission, a retractable soft top, and significant improvements to the chassis and suspension. A top performing car in all respects, 0-60 was achievable in 4.0 seconds, with a top speed of 195 mph. Surprisingly all this style and speed came with new-found reliability, premium sound, cold air conditioning, and a compelling Italian design that still impresses today. The Gallardo Coupe and Spyder continued in production until 2013. Although sales were strong over the production run before the Huracan replaced the Gallardo, a mere 1,015 Spyders were built in 2007.
This Gallardo Spyder is a two-owner, low-mile example in excellent condition. Sold new by Lamborghini Scottsdale to the first owner on June 14, 2007, the lustrous black finish and black leather interior features yellow accent piping and yellow brake discs. The triple black color combination is both dynamic and elegant.
The first owner of this Gallardo was Bart Colson, a highly respected performance car enthusiast with a significant collection of rare sports and race cars. Mr. Colson retained the car in the metro Phoenix, AZ area with the Lamborghini accruing 6,500 miles under his decade of ownership. In 2016, the current owner purchased the car and has thoughtfully maintained it including records for services at Lamborghini Bellevue, Bellevue, WA in 2016 and 2017 and ongoing general fluid services performed by Vintage Racing Motors in Redmond, WA. Currently displaying 11,180 miles, in preparation for consignment, a new set of Michelin P4S tires have been mounted and an oil and filter service performed.
This beautiful Gallardo Spyder presents today in excellent condition, consistent with the low miles and consummate care offered by just two owners since delivered new. The vivid black paintwork is smooth and glossy offering mirror-like reflections. The lighting and glass are clear and crisp with excellent detailing. The five spoke alloy wheels envelope four-wheel disc brakes with yellow accent brake calipers. The emblems, logos, and design details are in superb condition. The crisp, angular Giugiaro Ital Design body surfaces echo many of the great Lamborghini designs of the past but here with the Spyder, offer a rare convertible configuration at the touch of a switch, allowing full open touring as the power top conceals itself beneath the low-profile rear deck. The mid-mounted V10 engine sits beneath the smooth rear deck while integrated venting channels aid in engine cooling for the 513 hp engine.
The interior is uniquely finished in black leather with yellow seat piping accents and yellow perimeter dashboard stitching, finished with contrasting satin silver interior details.
Consistent with the low miles, there are minimal signs of wear on the leather interior surfaces which often will show rub marks or seat bolster wear even on low mile cars. The technologically sophisticated dashboard features both digital and analog controls which is a welcome combination in an era where touch screens often remove much of the visceral experience of performance driving. The 6-speed e-gear shifting is easy to use, ergonomically well laid out, and offers peak performance at your fingertips, all while enjoying high-performance motoring in a premium open-air sports car.
The engine compartment houses the incomparable V10 engine, tucked into the mid-section of the car. This layout allows for optimum weight distribution with handling further enhanced by four-wheel disc brakes, rapid shifting 6-speed e-gear transmission, and remarkable road holding from the dynamically balanced suspension.
Behind the wheel the Gallardo Spyder offers a wonderfully tuned driving experience. The Spyder delivers fantastic engine sounds under acceleration and the open cockpit is comfortable and roomy with minimal wind buffeting even at higher speeds. Though developed for performance driving, the Gallardo Spyder is docile and compliant in urban traffic, yet eager to take on freeway onramps, mountain roads, or open stretches of highway offering miles of enjoyable touring from one of the most refined open Lamborghinis ever built.
Since its debut in 2006, the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder has maintained a strong following as one of the most desirable sports cars of the 21st century. For anyone seeking a beautifully preserved, low mile Gallardo Spyder, this stunning triple black example is ready to deliver exhilarating open air driving, superb performance, and exceptional design for years to come.
