OVERVIEW
Ferrari’s transition to mid-engine cars from the front-engine V12s of yesteryear marked a challenging and difficult change demanded by the increasing successes of mid-engine powered cars in racing venues. Ferrari's first mid-engine V8 production road car, the 308, launched in 1975, established this engine format as the quintessential performance platform – one that would last for decades to come. As technology advanced, Ferrari introduced the 348 in1989, ultimately leading way to the more technically sophisticated F355, launched in 1994.
Designed and developed with Pininfarina, the F355 was a highly advanced sports car. The sophisticated body design incorporated considerable aerodynamic refinement derived from Ferrari’s in-house F1 testing, composite body panels, and extensive use of aluminum for the chassis. Powered by a 3.5-liter V8, the engine featured a 5-valve per cylinder configuration allowing for better intake and exhaust flow, producing an impressive 375 horsepower. The F355 could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of around 183 mph. Debuted in 1995, the spider featured a semi-automatic soft top, combining the performance of the Berlinetta with the allure of open-air driving. Rarely found in this unique color combination, this low mile F355 is 1 of just 2,664 gated six speed manual spiders produced during the F355 series run.
According to a copy of the window sticker and other documentation included with this car, this beautiful Ferrari F355 was assembled in September 1996 and delivered on October 22, 1996 to the first owner through Midwestern Auto Group Ferrari Dealer, Dublin, OH. Service stamps in the original owner’s manual indicate dealer services at Midwestern in August 2002 with 17,561 miles (cambelts and acc belts) and in March 2006 with 21,445 miles for a 30k service. First and second Ohio-based owners enjoyed the car until 2008, with just under 23,000 miles, when it was sold to a Pennsylvania resident who kept the car until selling it to the current Western Washington owner in 2015, then indicating approximately 38,000 miles. Under current ownership the owner has carefully documented all services and retained reference materials supported by eight three-ring binders of information collected on this car.
In May 2024 this F355 was comprehensively serviced by Veloce Motorsports, Kirkland, WA including a major service, timing belt replacement, installing 5.2 Hill bearings, interior sticky-button and trim service, metal door sill plate reconditioning, engine oil hose replacement, a new power steering pump pipe, new AC evaporator hose and AC receiver/dryer, at a cost in excess of $19,000.
Offered on consignment from the current owner, this elegant Ferrari F355 presents today in excellent condition. The Monaco Blue Metallic finish is contrasted by a rarely seen cream leather interior and blue canvas soft top, all of which combine to create a visually stunning Ferrari. The finish overall is quite nice with a few small signs of road use evident on the front and rear bumper surfaces and light scuff marks on the forward underpan. The factory tinted glass bears original brand etches and remains in excellent condition including the windshield. The body is straight, with all opening features showing factory panel gaps. The car is outfitted with factory five spoke wheels, which are in excellent condition, wearing a set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
The interior is very nicely preserved featuring beautifully refined cream leather upholstery creating an elegant atmosphere to the sporting profile. The seats are comfortable and supportive retaining soft supple leather surfaces. Controls and switches are correct, operational, and lack the stickiness often found in cars that lack this level of care. The factory gauges display excellent color and clarity, and the dashboard material retains a taut appearance. The center console features a Pioneer stereo system for those who wish to be distracted from the sonorous V8 sounds from the full Fabspeed stainless exhaust (the stock exhaust is included as well).
The gated 6-speed manual gear shift is prominently featured in the center console accompanied by climate controls and other power switches all of which maintain excellent finishes throughout. Matching blue carpets continue the interior theme retaining the original appearance including the alloy foot pedals. When in the open position, the convertible top is covered by a cream top boot which fits snugly over the blue canvas top.
Under the mid-engine lid, the legendary 3.5-liter Ferrari V8 has been properly maintained by Ferrari specialists and detailed with preservation in support of the 49,000 original documented miles. Notable details include correct and original textured red paint on the cam covers, correct black over alloy induction castings, and factory correct Ferrari airboxes. Importantly, major services along with all fluids and filters have been performed as recommended by Ferrari, including the most recent engine-out belt service in May of 2024.
Best of all, when driving this F355 one is remined how delightful the gated 6-speed manual transmission can be on a well-balanced mid-engine car. The distinct gear action operates very well allowing for a manageable city car yet very capable of higher engagement driving. Key points of the F355 include the wonderfully weighted steering, nimble suspension, and excellent brakes. This Ferrari is accompanied by the owner’s manual set, leather toolbox with factory tools and spares, and a series of three ring binders containing service invoices, shop manuals, and reference literature documenting this beautifully prepared F355 Spider.
Rarely found in such attractive colors, documented with owner’s manuals, tools, service records, and the factory exhaust system, this gated 6-speed manual F355 is sure to please the next fortunate owner with miles of refreshing open air driving, elegant weekend getaways, and participation in numerous Ferrari club events.
