2009 Audi R8 V8, Manual Transmission

The first (and only) owner ordered this car new to his specification in 2008. He deliberated for some time on the colors and then placed the final order. It took some time for the car to be built, and he told us – “Every time I’d start to get that itch for calling my dealer to see the current status…something new would show up in the mail from Audi.”  See the photos at the link - Audi of America sent some of the most wonderful R8 accessories, books, and even an aluminum sculpted model of an R8 during the months long wait for the car to be delivered.

You have to remember, when Audi released the R8, it was a major halo car for the company, and a big deal those first years. They even followed up on the one year anniversary of the delivery with another book. Other car manufacturers could take notes here!

Audi released the R8 in 2006 at the Paris Auto Show to global fanfare. Here was a known German manufacturer joining the upper end of the sports car market, and with a fresh design coupled with heavy engineering. Utilizing an aluminum monocoque along with carbon fiber, the chassis is very stiff. Loosely based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform (since Audi had recently acquired Lamborghini in 1998), they had a great starting point for their vision of what the market needed. Designed and built by Audi Sport GmbH (formerly quattro GmbH), the Audi R8 brought a balance of everyday luxury and comfort, with supercar levels of performance. The manual transmission here just emphasizes a great chassis and driving experience.
