Gordon Murray, Analog Cars, And The Best GT3 RS?

2007 Porsche GT3 RS

What a week. Gordon Murray releases the T.50, as the spiritual successor to the McLaren F1. Designed to be the next ultimate road car, the details are just stunning from a design perspective. As a car nut, go carve out an hour to watch the video. Seriously.

Also, this week, I had to struggle along in this GT3 RS. I do these things for you dear reader and customer. I make sure that when I tell people this is perhaps the ultimate analog RS Porsche, that I have had recent seat time to be crisp about it.

And that is where the intersection is between the design ethos Gordon Murray talked about and this RS cross. A stretch a bit perhaps to compare the two, but all about the driver, and the driving experience. Gordon talked about the directness of a manual transmission, and how it is just so much different than pushing a button or a lever on a DCT. I love the modern DCT (also see the '19 GT3 RS we have this week), but hard to argue with the engagement that a manual transmission still brings to the experience.  And isn't that what the car is for in the garage - for a weekend morning visceral experience?

I just love these 997 chassis RS cars. There is a directness to the gearshift that is lacking in so many other modern classic road cars. There is subtle vibration and harshness (in a great way) that remind you there are a number of Porsche Cup Car genes in the DNA here. I get to drive a lot of wonderful machines here. The 997 GT3 RS to me is always a top ten car. We can debate the 3.6L and 3.8L cars (or even the 4.0 cars), and I welcome that debate, but either way, you win. Truly great cars, and still arguably very affordable for a modern, limited production RS.

Truly a great week to have to do a few miles for photography and testing...yep, testing. That's my story and I am sticking to it. There were only 1,168 of these made worldwide, you should jump at the chance to add one to the garage when you find a good one.

This GT3 RS is available now for inspection and purchase in Issaquah, WA. You can see a full set of photos and all details here - 2007 Porsche GT3 RS

Please give me a call to talk about this car, or anything else in our inventory - I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm Regards,
