There are a lot of enthusiasts that call the 997 chassis the “high water mark of the analog Porsches.” Maybe it is hyperbole, but if you have not spent a weekend in a 997 with a manual transmission – well, I promise you are missing something good in your life. Porsche released the 997 chassis 911 Carrera to great fanfare. They moved back to “proper” shaped headlights and entered the full 2nd generation of the water-cooled Porsche 911 era. And it was good. The chassis was stiffer, the engine more powerful and tractable, and the exterior and interior all moved up another notch.
The Carrera 4S uses the wider bodyshell of the Turbo – you can see the wider hips pronounced in the back. This leads to a wider track for the suspension and emphasizes all the components that we romanticize in our heads about a Porsche 911 – wide, low, curvy, and fun.
