Most of you reading this will recognize this car. We sold it a couple years ago. It's back, and I just love it!
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Perhaps that is true, however here is what I can attest to. Since the timeframe we sold this (our very first consigned Escort Cosworth), I've driven quite a few more in various states of tune. I used to think of this car as "extreme" in terms of the mechanics and power delivery, but I have come to see it differently upon return and driving it again another 100 miles.
It is a stout and thoughtful build using all the best period parts, and then backed up with a modern turbo. The power is immediate and does not exhibit the standard Escort "Big Turbo" lag. It just pulls HARD, in all gears. And here is the twist -- it is relatively docile. Again, relatively. :) But you can run errands in it, sit in traffic, and still beat up on a lot of "bigger" cars as needed, and it does it all without complaint.
I am quite enamored of the car on its return, and it is now ready for the next caretaker to enjoy it on the street and/or track into the future. I've sold four of these this year already, and each time one sells, someone indubitably calls me the next day and is upset they missed out on one again. They remain rare, and unique, in the marketplace.
