Unveiled at the 2009 Auto Shanghai International Auto Show, the first generation Panamera was a significant step for Porsche, vying to compete in the exclusive luxury-performance sedan segment. The initial 970 design featured the V8 powered S, 4S, and Turbo models. The engine range offered in each of the models allowed enthusiasts the choice of V6 and V8 models with a wide range of performance characteristics.
The 4S model featured perhaps the best combination with Direct Fuel Injection and VarioCam Plus engine management with integrated dry sump lubrication. The 4.8 Liter V8 put out an impressive 395 hp, making it capable of achieving a 175 mph top speed. The newly developed ZF 7-speed PDK dual clutch transmission allowed for quick shifting and impressive acceleration numbers, all of which were celebrated in performance magazines that welcomed the many desirable traits of the new Panamera.
In 2013, the Panamera was updated with new front and rear bumpers as well as an updated 420 hp engine cleverly reduced in size to the dual overhead cam 3.0 liter V6 for the 4S models. This new, more powerful engine also offered better fuel consumption and lower international taxes based on displacement. The new engine delivered plenty of power and performance with great mid-range torque and surprising 0-60 times surpassing the former V8 offering in the earlier 4S. Priced at upwards of $130k when new, the premium leather interior, comfort features, and state of the art conveniences included top level high fidelity audio, navigation, and XM radio, all of which contributed to a truly fantastic premium sports sedan. Impeccably maintained and used sparingly by the owner, this Panamera 4S was exclusively serviced at Porsche Bellevue including the manufacturer’s service action replacement of the interior surveillance sensor. In 2017 a 10,000-mile service was performed even though only 2,816 miles had accumulated by this time. In 2019, a manufacturer’s safety recall was performed replacing a selector lever cable bushing. In preparation for sale, the car has been serviced once again by Porsche Bellevue with all service requirements brought up to date including inspections of all systems and fluids. The currently displayed 7,423 miles are documented by a current and consistent Carfax showing no accidents and current Washington State registration.
Today this Porsche Panamera 4S displays nearly as it did when new. Clearly pampered since delivery and used with moderation, every cosmetic and service detail has been thoughtfully carried out to the highest level possible with services and inspections performed only by authorized professionals. The paint is essentially in as new condition with beautiful gloss and deep luster, elegantly so in vivid white with gloss black trim and high-quality detailing. The door jams, inner surfaces, front and rear bumper details and undercut body surfaces are all consistent with the low miles and near new exterior finishes. The unique 20” Turbo II wheels are in excellent condition with no curb rash, showing excellent finish, and factory correct all-season tires. Lenses, glass and lighting are all in new condition throughout, including the optional black trimmed LED Dynamic headlights. All emblems, script lettering, and exterior details are beautifully finished and in excellent condition, again appearing essentially as new.
The interior is elegantly finished with a combination of supple black leather and state of the art technically sophisticated, yet easy to use, controls. The interior looks, smells, and feels as though it were new, showing no marks or wear to the premium leather luxury seating surfaces, center console, or dashboard. The 14-way optional power seats move smoothly at fingertip command, the Bose Audio and navigation function perfectly, and the convenience controls are all readily at hand combining the perfect combination for GT touring within a capably roomy sedan. The dashboard and instrumentation vividly illuminate against the dark colors, displaying wonderful lighting and technical details so perfectly engineered by the precision artisans of Porsche AG. The condition of the carpeting, uniquely scripted Panamera doorsills, gloss surfaces, and other soft interior surfaces, commonly prone to wear, is excellent throughout, once again as one might expect from a new car. Even the roomy trunk compartment is in excellent condition with virtually new carpet and an unmarked brushed finish trunk sill.
Under the hood, the beautiful V6 engine is clean and unmodified from new, highlighted by elegant and purposeful engine management components displaying 3.0 V6S insignias, all nestled in a remarkably clean engine bay. The driver’s door opens smoothly allowing comfortable entry for even larger occupants entering the car and further accommodating in the numerous seat adjustments. Activated by the latest in driving technology, this Panamera 4S starts, runs, and drives per original specifications delivering a distinctive sport exhaust note which can be enjoyed equally with or without engaging the amazing Bose Audio system. Driving manners are impressive with a combination of power and prestige offering sedan-like composure yet packing a wonderful punch even when modestly coaxed. Handling is smooth and sporty, while highway driving is quiet under cruise and absolutely thrilling when downshifting and engaged to pass.
