OVERVIEW

Porsche released the 997 chassis 911 Carrera to great fanfare. They moved back to “proper” shaped headlights and entered the full 2nd generation of the water-cooled Porsche 911 era. And it was good. The chassis was stiffer, the engine more powerful and tractable, and the exterior and interior all moved up another notch.

As the 997.1 cars gave way for the 997.2 cars, things continued upward in the standard improvement cycle. Powering the newest generation 4S was a 3.8L unit now producing 385 hp and 310 lb./ft. of torque. The motor is exceptional in terms of free revving ability, and lots of usable torque down low.

There are a lot of enthusiasts that call the 997 chassis the “high water mark of the analog Porsches.”  Maybe it is hyperbole, but if you have not spent a weekend in a 997 with a manual transmission – well, I promise you are missing something good in your life.

The C4S uses the wider bodyshell of the Turbo – you can see the wider hips pronounced in the back. This leads to a wider track for the suspension and emphasizes all the components that we romanticize in our heads about a Porsche 911 – wide, low, curvy, and fun.

Driving this C4S Cabriolet is a flat out treat. The little bit of drivetrain weight up front leads to a very balanced chassis feel, and the AWD helps you scrabble out of low traction situations – such as the local off camber rough patch hillclimb course in hometown (just a theoretical example, we never condone use of local roads as hillclimb courses!). The car makes sublime noises the harder you push it, and when you want the top down, a single button makes it all happen. There are also the exhaust, suspension, and sport buttons to play with, giving you the Jekyll and Hyde personalities of the car, depending on how you want to enjoy it.

With an original window sticker of $125,840, this C4S Cab was very tastefully optioned from the factory:

  • Black Full Leather Interior

  • Sports Exhaust System

  • Sport Chrono Plus Package

  • Heated Seats

  • 19” Turbo II Wheels

  • Xenon Lights with PDLS

  • PCM 3.0 Navigation

  • Park Assist (Rear)

  • “911” Model Designation

  • Comfort Package

  • 12-way Power Seats

  • Infotainment Package

  • BOSE Surround Sound System

Showing just 43,300 miles, the cosmetics on the car are very nice throughout, with only a few minor rock chips, and some scuffs on the interior driver’s door threshold. Recent services include the 40K service in 2018, an oil/filter change in 2019, and a brake fluid flush in 2020, and fresh tires. A clean Carfax report showing single ownership is included.

This 997.2 chassis 2012 Porsche Carrera 4S Cabriolet is offered for sale, with original books, manuals, and both keys all present. Clean and clear WA title.
