OVERVIEW
The “US National Park Audi R8” – if ever there were the need for a poster car for the US National Park Service, this car could be it. However, we will get to that story in a moment. First, let’s take a look at what the motoring press said about the V10 Audi R8 when it was released:
“If you're ever lucky enough to encounter a black-on-black 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro in the flesh, chances are you'll probably mumble "Whoa." We did. There's no doubt the Audi R8 is a masterpiece of a sports car. It's got the best traits a contemporary performance car can offer: exotic design, hand-built construction, aluminum space frame, mid-engine layout, to name a few. Just look at it and you'll quickly understand that it was put on this planet to chew up and spit out challenging racetracks and curvaceous mountain roads.” – Nate Martinez, MotorTrend, September 2009
Audi released the R8 in 2006 at the Paris Auto Show to global fanfare. Here was a known German manufacturer joining the upper end of the sports car market, and with a fresh design coupled with heavy engineering. Utilizing an aluminum monocoque along with carbon fiber, the chassis is very stiff. Loosely based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform (since Audi had recently acquired Lamborghini in 1998), they had a great starting point for their vision of what the market needed. Designed and built by Audi Sport GmbH (formerly quattro GmbH), the Audi R8 brought a balance of everyday luxury and comfort, with supercar levels of performance. Launched with a 4.2L V8, this performance was heightened even more with the addition of a 5.2L V10 to the line-up.
The first owner of this Audi R8 purchased it from Porsche/Audi of Downtown Los Angeles in California. Later moving to Houston, Texas, the car covered just 1,400 miles with the first owner in two years. The second owner acquired the car in 2012 and it split time between homes in Gig Harbor, WA, and Tucson, AZ, being shipped via enclosed transport seasonally.
From there the story gets really fun. Over the next few years, the car began acquiring miles on epic road trips – in fact visiting over a dozen US National Parks in the Western half of the United States. Used primarily as a road trip car for this ongoing tour of National Parks, it was always dealer serviced when back at home in Washington. See the photos of the car at Canyonlands, Yosemite, and Petrified National Park as highlights below. A full photo book of the car and US National Parks is included with the sale.
The owner reports that the car was an exceptional companion for these long road trips. Wonderfully fast and comfortable, it often flew under the radar across big open roads gobbling up huge miles at a quick pace. Except that one time…when a local Sheriff pulled him over in a small town:
“Do you know why I pulled you over?”
“No… I do not believe I was speeding here in town.”
“Well, that part is correct – you were not speeding in town. I pulled you over so the State Patrol officer that you passed a few miles back can catch up. He would like a word with you.”
Well, you can’t win them all. Still, 15,000+ miles were racked up visiting some of the greatest National Parks in the United States. What are you going to add for your chapter with the car?
Presented in striking Phantom Black Pearl over Black Leather with body colored sideblades, this R8 is in exceptional cosmetic condition. The front of the car has clear paint protection film. The original MSRP on the car was $155,100.00, and came with the following notable options (the photo of the full option code sticker is in the gallery):
Audi Navigation Plus
Bang & Olufsen Sound System
Piano Black Lacquer Trim
Sport Seats
Park Distance Control – Front and Rear
LED Headlights
Dealer serviced from new, the car is current on maintenance and ready to go. New Michelin Pilot tires were installed at 14K miles in April of 2017. The most recent service in May 2019 included engine oil/filter service, brake fluid flush, new spark plugs, and a new battery.
Offered with original books/manuals, two keys, car cover, service records from 2012 to current, clean Carfax report, and a clean/clear WA title.
