OVERVIEW

With more than seven decades of high-performance racing, engineering, and award-winning design, the Porsche 911 remains one of the most iconic sports cars ever produced. Offered in a wide range of configurations suited to varied driving preferences, the uncompromising performance and comfort features of the 911continue to attract new generations of enthusiasts to the Porsche brand. Decades of racing expertise and motorsports participation remain key to the legacy of Porsche performance, impressing legions of dedicated drivers seeking the very best in sports car design and engineering.

The fifth-generation 911, offered from 1997-2005 ushered in the first of the water-cooled engine platform that would redefine new engine technology for the coming decades. Retaining the legacy rear-engine, rear-drive layout, the 996 benefited from ongoing years of improvements offering design changes, mechanical enhancements, and the introduction of the much-vaulted all-wheel drive system offered in the Carrera 4. Convertible models featured power tops and optional removable hardtops (like our example here), ideal for year-round use.

According to the current Carfax, the first owner purchased the car from the Bellingham, WA based Porsche dealership, with a second residence listed in Scottsdale, AZ. A Carfax mild damage report is indicated which appears to have been confined to the front bumper cap and hood blending. By 2011, first owner moved back to the Seattle area, subsequently offering the car for sale through the original selling dealership. The second and current owner purchased the car in 2013. Over the past decade of ownership, current owner has maintained and serviced this car tending to all fluids and annual scheduled maintenance. Importantly, this series Porsche is known for IMS/RMS issues, which have been professionally remedied along with clutch work performed in 2014 at 24,461 miles. A major service has been performed in early 2023 including all fluids, a new shift detent kit, convertible top service, battery, fuel pump, and a new set of Michelin tires.

Today, displaying just 39,500 miles, this Carrera 4 Cabriolet presents beautifully with excellent factory correct silver paint throughout including the hard-to-find factory hardtop finished in the same color. The exterior finish has been digitally metered delivering thickness readings consistent with original paint application (4mls) on all metal panels. The hood appears to have been blended with clear coat coverage reading 2.0mls higher (6-7 range). As noted in the Carfax, the front bumper cap has been refinished with excellent paint match to the hood and front bumper cap. Both front and rear bumper caps are in excellent condition with good fit and finish to the body surfaces. All opening features operate properly. The factory glass is clean and scratch-free including a clear windshield, tight sealing side glass, and clear rear glass for the convertible top and hardtop. The lighting and lenses are in excellent condition including the optional headlight washers. The satin silver alloy wheels retain the optional colored center crests and silver brake calipers. Two wheels show very minor marks on the bead edge. A set of 2022 date coded Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are mounted. One of the more intriguing aspects of this era design is the flush Porsche rear wing. Unlike the fixed whale-tail design of the past, when driven at speed, the speed-activated rear spoiler raises automatically. Impressive power from the 3.4-liter engine is even more exhilarating with four-wheel power delivered via 6-speed manual transmission.

The interior has been very well-maintained with supple leather on seating surfaces and premium cabin accents. A dash mounted Alpine CD disc changer audio system is paired with a front storage mounted Kenwood Excelon unit. The interior surfaces are in excellent condition, offering comfortable support for performance driving. The interior is very nice, though as typically found in these cars, the driver’s side left mid-seat bolster shows minor wear attributed to entrance/exit activity. The dashboard, main cluster instrumentation, and easily accessed center console controls are all beautifully laid out and reflective of enthusiast care. The 6-speed manual gear selector is perfectly located for casual city driving, ergonomically designed to capture ease of use in traffic but also offers high performance driving with desirable manual control. The dashboard and assorted instrumentation operate properly, displaying key operational features and systems status. The carpet, door panels, and rear seat surfaces are in excellent condition, appearing to have been minimally if ever used. The desirable power convertible top has excellent headliner and exterior finish, and operates smoothly when raised and lowered, benefiting from recent service. The hardtop is also in excellent condition with correct matching headliner, and a smooth, factory fit when installed.

The engine compartment has been thoughtfully maintained and properly serviced per Porsche recommendations including years of service from dedicated experts from dealerships and Porsche specialists during both first and second ownership. Porsche factory components are in excellent cosmetic condition and engine detailing has been regularly performed. Inside the front storage area, factory materials and features remain as delivered when new, including special provisions for the Kenwood audio upgrade, yet still offering ample room for cargo or small travel bags. The underside of the car, suspension and driveline casings indicate evidence of regular care, free from any significant marks or notable damage, consistent with the overall impressive cosmetic condition. A complete set of owner’s manuals, service records, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, window sticker, and hardtop accompany the car.

With a history of unrivaled engineering, iconic design, and Porsche 911 heritage, this beautiful Carrera 4 Cabriolet offers classic elegance and open-air performance. As beautifully maintained examples are becoming harder to find, it’s hard to believe that this car is now approaching a quarter century since delivered new. This Carrera 4 delivers excellent finishes, low miles, and enthusiast care, ready to engage in weekend getaways, open air driving, and 6-speed manual performance motoring.
