OVERVIEW

As noted in all the published history, the Series 1 was the only “clean sheet” design by Carrol Shelby. With this clean sheet design, the team utilized exotic materials and an uncompromising layout to create Shelby’s take on the quintessential sports car.

The engine was pushed well behind the front axle line (to help achieve the 50/50 weight distribution), and suspension features double wishbone with inboard cantilevered coilovers at all four corners with remote reservoirs. The chassis was a combination of aluminum honeycomb for the tub, and aluminum front and rear subframes attached within. The overall body is made of composite carbon fiber.

This is car #82 out of the known 249 produced (all cars were produced as 1999 models, although construction and delivery were noted as late as 2002), and was delivered in September of 2000.

The power plant was originally slated to be a de-tuned Indy Racing League (IRL) engine, however that proved difficult to secure the necessary number, as well as meeting emissions compliance. The compact Aurora all aluminum V8 with dual overhead cams and 32 valves fit the revised design spec. The sounds this motor makes through the standard exhaust are exactly what one expects from a Shelby – it barks and growls around town and on full throttle it snaps necks.

Weighing in at only 2,650 pounds, the Shelby accelerates 0-60 in 4.4 seconds, and the hustles through the quarter mile in 12.8 seconds at 112mph. Unrestricted, the car will go on to a 170mph top speed.

All Series 1 cars came with 18” Speedline wheels as standard, 10” wide in the front, 12” wide in th rear, running Goodyear Supercar tires.  Inside these wheels are massive 13” front, 12” rear ventilated disc brakes.

This car has been part of a local private collection in the greater Seattle area since purchase new. With only this single owner, this car has been used sparingly since delivery, and still is 100% original throughout.

Offered with original sales documentation, two sets of keys, owner’s manual, and a delivery letter from Shelby American, Inc. This is a rare piece of Shelby history in excellent condition.

“...this car couldn’t be any more Carroll Shelby if they bottled his essence and mixed it into the goo that bonds the carbon-fiber body panels.”
