OVERVIEW
The iconic 911 Porsche is, quite simply, one of the most important fixtures of sports car history. And while all good things must come to an end, it follows that the 993, the last of the air-cooled Porsches, represents the most refined of these truly great sports cars, ending a remarkable run of world class engineering and superlative design. Embodying the very best traits of the original Porsche 911 with the benefits of modern technology, the 1997 Carrera S delivers on all counts. A one-year only offering, the Carrera S combined the clean 911 profile, naturally aspirated 3.6 liter twin plug flat six, manual transmission, and dramatic wide rear fender profile with production rarity. A mere 1,843 were built, making these among the most desirable contemporary 911 series Porsches produced.
Modern even by today’s standards, the twin plug 3.6 liter flat-6 brings jaw-dropping power to a surprisingly drivable car without compromise. Outfitted with the highly desirable 6-speed G50 Porsche gearbox, the 993 is today considered a rare and highly desirable Porsche; one that collectors and enthusiasts are recognizing more and more, particularly by seeking out low mile, highly optioned original examples in desirable factory colors.
According to documentation and Carfax data, this factory original black on black, four-owner, sunroof optioned car was sold new in California but has remained exclusively in the Bellevue/Kirkland, Washington area since 1999 with services performed at reputable specialty dealerships, more recently, at Porsche Bellevue. In 2010, the left front fender was professional refinished (no airbag deployment reported). Visual inspection and paint metering indicate that the front bumper cap has been repainted, the front fenders have been refinished, but the underside of the hood and other underside metal paint areas remain original, with paint limited to cosmetic repair. There are also signs of previous paint work on the passenger door and rear quarter, done to a high standard and indicative of a cosmetic surface repair, as the inner metal and jambs are original paint.
Under current and more recent ownership, the car has been serviced at authorized Porsche dealerships. The 62,000 miles currently displayed on the odometer are believed to be original and consistent with the Carfax and service records accompanying the car.

Currently on consignment at our showroom, this Porsche Carrera S presents in excellent cosmetic condition with largely original factory black paint that has been protected over the years with clear paint protection film applied from the cowl forward. The finish overall is quite nice, especially considering how unforgiving black finishes can be. The unique wide body is in beautiful condition with excellent factory door, trunk, and hood closure, and smooth fit at the front and rear bumpers. The clean exterior trim, smooth and glossy lenses, and clear glass are remarkable for a car of this age. The windshield was replaced in October 2020 at the local Porsche dealer. The 18” wheels are in near perfect condition with no curb rash or scrape marks. 2019 date coded Pirelli P Zero tires are mounted with ample tread depth remaining. Of particular note is the rare and highly desirable factory optioned XD1 and XD2 front and rear spoilers which give the car a radically powerful look and stance, particularly sinister in all black.
The original interior shows beautifully, beguiling the mileage while boasting of previously careful ownership. The black leather seats still retain the supple feel of a newer car. Only moderate use is evident even in the driver’s seat and carpeted foot wells. The excellent leather finishes and miscellaneous refined material condition continues throughout the interior. The door panels, including door sills and door pocket lids are all in very nice condition. The carpeting, headliner, and sun visors are also remarkably fresh and without notable wear or flaws. The dashboard features an array of traditionally 911 derived instruments showing excellent cosmetic finishes, flanked by a very nice center console, which houses the highly desirable 6-speed manual shifter. An aftermarket Alpine stereo head unit has been installed, which upgrades the audio entertainment as an enhancement to the rapturous engine sounds. The rear seating area appears essentially as new with no marks or wear to any of the surfaces. Even the steering wheel, often found with excessive nail marks or sun-fade, remains in very good condition. The overall fit and finish of the interior is fresh, comfortable, and exhibits all the traits of a properly sorted and original car, complimenting the exterior.
Under the hood, the last of the air-cooled 911 engines, the 285 hp 3.6L M64, is favorably equipped with Varioram induction. The engine compartment and trunk are cleaned and properly detailed displaying original factory features including the correct engine emission stickers, lines, and hardware. The original engine is absolutely correct and properly maintained offering more torque and power than the early 993 motors. The trunk area appears essentially as new retaining original materials and factory finishes including the collapsible spare tire, proper black molded components, factory treated metal parts, and correct hardware.
The car starts instantly and has a great exhaust sound. The factory optional 159 Motor Sound Package, which includes different mufflers, a modified airbox, and special exhaust tips provides a wonderful induction roar resulting in genuinely remarkable performance, even when compared against modern cars. Driving this Carrera S is very rewarding particularly with the upgraded Bilstein PSS10 coilover shocks which offer great road feedback and dynamic cornering response even under modest driving. The chassis is composed, tight, and authentic, showing no visual evidence of structural compromise to the underside of the car.
The unmistakably desirable last series Porsche 911 marked the final iteration of greatness on this historic Porsche with the 993. Finished in vivid black with front and rear factory Aerokit spoliers, sunroof, and premium sound, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a well-maintained and handsomely optioned Porsche Carrera S. Beautifully maintained with exceptional cosmetics, this 911 Carrera S is poised for ongoing desirability and increased demand as a premium example of the last of the great air-cooled rear engine Porsches of the 20th century.
