OVERVIEW

Among the most sought-after dual-purpose utility vehicles ever built, the legendary Land Rover 90 and 110 models have spanned decades of production while serving a wide range of customers and uses. Braving frozen Arctic tundra, arid African deserts, and vast Australian outback, the Defender has fulfilled continuous market demands from all over the world, spawning an entire genre of Sport Utility Vehicles that followed in the tracks of these legendary icons. The Defender 110 was first offered in 1983 and distinguished itself from the 90 by its longer 110” wheelbase. Factory built examples included external and internal roll cages, aluminum body work, 16” alloy wheels, disc brakes, and convenience options including factory stereos and air conditioning. Equipped with four-wheel drive via a five-speed manual synchromesh gearbox and dual-range transfer case, initial market interest was high, but has more recently become highly popular due to the unique and durable Land Rover Defender design that continues to deliver a powerful visual and mechanical presence despite the near 40-year span since it was first introduced.

In 2018, the current owner engaged premier Land Rover specialty builders “The Landrovers”, located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to restore and enhance this Defender 110. The team began with a donor Defender 110 documented by a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate confirming the original engine which remains in the vehicle today. The original Land Rover build was completed September 14, 1992 and sold to the first (Dutch) owner November 28, 1992, it was purchased from the first owner March 3, 2016 and then commissioned for build by the third and current owner. At the time of refurbishment with The Landrovers, the vehicle had covered approximately 170k kilometers.

Considered to be among the finest craftsmen for this genre, The Landrovers commenced a 1,200+ hour nut and bolt, body-off restoration, addressing the bodywork, installing new doors, rust treating the media blasted frame, and painting the frame and chassis components. Further work included a new fuel system, new ventilated disc brakes, new suspension with reconditioned front and rear axles, new cooling and heating system, new power steering, and new 18” Land Rover wheels. The 200 Tdi engine was comprehensively rebuilt including new pistons, internal components, reconditioned turbo, rebuilt fuel pump, and new injectors, seals, gaskets, and timing gear. The gearbox and transfer box were reconditioned, new springs and shocks and all new bushings added, and a new custom air conditioning unit was installed.

The exterior was finished with satin black details, body color grille, and privacy package for all door glass. A Safety Devices roll cage, long rail roof rack, and ladder for roof access was also installed. Angel Eye 007 LED headlights and LED taillight package were installed along with a rear reverse flood light. An LED front bumper and Terrafirma NAS rear step bumper with tow ball and electrics were also installed.

The interior was fully refurbished and freshly reupholstered in high quality hand tailored leather for the heated front seats, three middle row seats, two bench seats, and dashboard top panel. New rubber matting was also installed in selected floor areas. Seat rail extensions were also installed to increase legroom and seating comfort. The interior structure was treated to a full sound and heat insulation package for the bulkhead, doors, floor tunnel, foot bases, and hood. Two sliding rear windows were installed in the rear along with a rear window defogger and rear window defroster. A Bluetooth USB DAB+ radio was installed with a six-speaker sound system and premium subwoofer backdoor speakers as well as extra USB charger for the rear cubby. Upon completion of the build, this Defender 110 was delivered to the current owner who has accumulated approximately 8,800 miles. In June 2021, the owner commissioned LaMorna Garage, Seattle, WA to convert the rear drum brakes to discs allowing for improved stopping power.

Today this Defender is a stunning example of the original design, sensitively updated by premier Land Rover experts. The Mercedes-Benz satin silver paint is in excellent condition with superb satin appearance applied over high-quality body panels. The body panels have great detailing including the workmanship in the distinctive slotted grille, LED headlights, blacked out body features, and purposeful roof rack. The stance is tall, confident, and wicked, offering a commanding presence firmly anchored by comprehensively rebuilt suspension, disc brakes all around, and a fully rebuilt turbo-diesel drivetrain. While exterior body modifications have been minor, the rugged satin black wheel arches and trim add an aggressive touch to the functional four door package that offers plenty of room for family adventures, camping, and rugged terrain explorations.

The interior is a very nice balance of durable materials, comfort features, and purposeful trim. With heated leather upholstered seats front and rear, air conditioning that blows cold throughout the expansive cabin, and additional sound insulation. Passengers can feel equally confident about paved road travel or rugged terrain use, enjoying premium audio while safely cruising highways at modern speeds or navigating entrance roads to secluded cabins.

The engine compartment is representative of further excellence by the team at The Landrovers. The rebuilt engine, new wiring, modern AC unit, power steering, and professional finishes reflect the excellent craftsmanship performed during the refurbishment. The finishes and features are very nicely prepared with attention to detail and consistency with both Land Rover and The Landrovers quality touches. The underside reveals a beautifully detailed chassis with refined finish work performed on the frame members, suspension components, and other mechanical systems. As so much of the Land Rover is revealed in the wheel openings, the suspension and structural elements are professionally executed and these features instill further confidence in off-road capabilities. The suspension, disc brakes at all four corners, and Cooper tires are perfectly suited to the character of the original Defender with just the right number of valued upgrades. This Land Rover Defender 110 is offered with a detailed color build book, service booklet, documents covering the work performed by The Landrovers, and a British Motors Heritage Certificate.

For anyone seeking a high-quality Land Rover Defender 110 with contemporary upgrades, refurbished, and optioned to a very high level, mechanically suited for a wide range of uses, and ready for reliable use, this Defender 110 is perfectly suited for an enthusiast seeking outdoor adventure and sporty driving experiences as only the Land Rover Defender 110 can deliver.
